School choirs gathered for a banquet at Myers Fried Chicken Restaurant. Barbara Woodson presided as toastmistress, Dr. R. G. Boger of Amarillo Center delivered the guest speech. Awards honored La Nelle Merrick and John Isaacs for service, with musical numbers by Joe Roderiquez, Cornelius Mack, and ensembles.
The social calendar shows church circles and club meetings through the evening. Women’s groups from Piret Baptist to Amarillo Antique Club, Navy Mothers, and First Presbyterian Carrie Willard Circle meet with times around 6 to 8 oclock. Some events include suppers, dances, lessons, and performances at local halls and conservatories.
Kathryn Cravens, a noted radio commentator and pioneer woman observer, received the first prize for her novel Pursuit of Gentlemen in a National League of American Pen Women contest. She also earned recognition for two poems, To My Son and Down the Trail in 49, at an Author's Breakfast in Washington DC.
Mrs Vernon Crawford entertained the Junior Travel Study Club at Amarillo Country Jr with guest Mra Harold Brady presiding. Social hour featured Mesdames David Brown Preston Conerly Sam Crain Vernon Crawford E J Dunn Gordon Gill Watson B Hamilton C Lloyd King Ralph LeMond John W Makeig Gordon McCarty Robert McNeil E Leo Miller P W Mullins W W Sharp Royal Wertz 8 B Whittenburg O B Wyrick and W B O Brien. The annual spring luncheon is set for May 26 at 12 o'clock in the Country Club.
Humphreys Highland Home Demonstration Club will meet Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home of Mrs. L. M. Miller at 618 Russell. Members are urged to attend and bring project materials for discussion.
Miss Elaine van Valkenburg, bride-elect of Jimmy Brewton, was honored at a miscellaneous shower hosted by Mrs. B. R. Cole and Mrs. J. H. Anderson at the Anderson home on West Fourteenth. Roses and irises adorned the rooms. Guests included J. H. Doty, Mary Schenefelt, T. Edgar Neal, LD. Parker, Ed Enochs, J. D. Smith, Carl Walker, Kathryn Manless, Horace Ammons, Morris Bankhead, H. M. Amnett, Charlotte Risley, Pauline Glovier, H. P. Cochran, IE. R. Jacobson, H. Van Valkenburg, H. Anderson, Carolyn Parker, Ann Arnett and Barbara Jerson. Givers included Joe Lakey, Whitney, Frank Wilson, B. R. Cole, E. R. Thompson and Helen Enochs.
St Marys Academy Parent Teacher Association plans a Wednesday evening gathering at Cathedral Hall at eight oclock. The program includes installation of officers and a social hour. All members are urged to attend.
