Leper Colony Puzzled By Sudden Publicity

Officials at the U S Marine hospital and leprosarium in Carville Louisiana are puzzled by publicity over admission requests to Hansen s disease ward. The facility denies special privileges and notes many patients are war veterans with spouses staying nearby during visiting hours.

President Asked To Draft Men 25 to 29

Washington May 16 The Army asks President Truman to direct drafting of men aged 25 to 29 due to a prospective replacement shortage after the stop gap revision of the Selective Service Act. An official said the President may act today and noted the 25 to 29 pool is about 15 000. The Army will continue discharges for two years of service or a 40 point score after June 30 and cannot promise shorter release terms. Demobilization proceeds as Eisenhower promised, pending congressional action on the draft. A White House order is needed to lift the ban on drafting men over 25.

One Woman Killed in Highway Crash East of Amarillo

A fatal two vehicle wreck on U S Highway 60 eight miles east of Amarillo injured another woman seriously and killed a man identified as A. P. Polke. The victims, Mrs. C. E. Shaffer and Mrs. E. S. Adams, were taken to St. Anthony's Hospital after the 1945 International semi-trailer struck their 1940 Ford. Malloy pled guilty to drunkenness and was fined 14 dollars.
