Thousands of visitors arrive as the West Texas Chamber of Commerce opens its 1985 convention in San Angelo. AmArillo and Plainview vie for host status with delegates campaigning for donors. Resolutions urge better West Texas highways and critique budget and veteran pay actions. Four major actions for the year include county agricultural analyses and regional planning.
Texas relief director Marie Dresden said only 1.25 million dollars remains of 4 million dollars in bonds and that 2.75 million in state bond money spent since April 17 nearly balanced the state with the federal matching fund. Revenue now should cover through June 10 with equal federal supplementation. further reductions possible through September. The federal grants exceed 2 million dollars in addition to the matching funds.
