Bernardine King, 28, aviatrix, was sunbathing in an open cockpit monoplane when the engine failed at 1,000 feet en route to Los Angeles from Bakersfield. She landed in a field, wrecked the plane, and suffered a finger fracture and severe bruises, recalling a prior Oregon incident.
