Denison dispatch reports ex con Burton Franks arrested for questioning in the Maypearl bank murder of Willis D. Wileman president of the First State Bank of Maypearl. Franks admitted robbing the bank and was found with 558 dollars in a pillow case. He was identified by FBI agent E. E. Conroy. Wileman died after being slugged and shot in Waxahachie hospital. Franks previously served time in Hunt County penitentiary under a 1937 sentence, later released on pardon.

Rivalry turns deadly as suitors clash on grade crossing
Fairfax, May 11. Police accuse Douglas Goodnough, 27, painter, of assault and attempted murder in a love rivalry case. He allegedly tried to force Blair Cupp, 22, WPA worker, to stay in a stalled auto at a grade crossing while an express train sped toward them at 80 mph. Cupp escaped, saying he preferred a shot to being mangled by the train. Rail officials called the near-miss a miracle. Sheriff Eppa P. Kirby linked the case to rivalry for Alice Watkins, a bank employee.

Deaf students strike over school paper dedication dispute
At the state school for the deaf in Baton Rouge about 40 to 50 boy students refused classes after staying up all night. They protested superintendent L. R. The Maverick Club was burglarized for the second time in three weeks. Intruders entered through a rear door and escaped via a front window.
