Tax Relief for Business Asked
A joint Senate House postwar tax committee and the Treasury Department urged immediate sweeping revisions of business taxes to aid reconversion from war to peace. Recommendations include increasing the excess profits tax exemption to 25,000 from 10,000, allowing the postwar credit of 10 percent to be applied to 1944 and later liabilities, and accelerating amortization deductions for emergency facilities. No change in individual or corporate income taxes is urged. Morgenthau cited administration opposition to cuts until Japan is defeated.
