Lt General James H. Doolittle announced in London that the U S Eighth Air Force will expand its operations with a predicted 2,000 aircraft raid against Japan as airfields and supply routes are bolstered. He noted over 200,000 personnel in England and that many crews will shift to the Pacific as Superfortresses and other bombers operate from new bases.
The U S and Britain will oppose further invitations to the United Nations Conference to prevent revival of Russian demands for admission of the Warsaw Polish government. Argentina became the 49th member after a heated session. Norwegian plans to invite Denmark as the 50th are under consideration. Eden and Vandenburg push regional arrangements and a compromise on world organization structure as delegates depart.
London May 114 The four power European advisory commission, after months of secret work on Germanys occupation terms, will disclose a number of its recommendations within two or three days, it was learned today.

Allied reporters report Himmler's SS guard commander surrendered while Himmler fled before capture plans. In Mittendorf area 45 miles east of Salzburg, 175 SS troops fortified two farmhouse strongpoints on Lopernstein Mountain but were convinced to surrender if treated as POWs.

Paris, May 11. Paul Reynaud said in an exclusive United Press interview that Marshal Henri Philippe Petain was most responsible for France's 1940 collapse and his resignation as premier. He claimed a Petain plotted his capture and 42 year imprisonment by the Nazis but will not reveal plot details yet.
The U S Fight Air Force lists 43 742 fighter pilots and bomber crew men killed or missing in action in Europe with 4 456 bombers reported in action.
