Madden Wins Saber Award For Drilling

Cadet Wales Madden won the annual ROTC saber award replacing metal with a war bond due to material shortages. Cadet Lt. Jimmie Earl Bailey was runner up among 260 cadets. eight finalists drilled on stage with judges from Amarillo Army Air Field. Nine cadets received efficiency medals presented by the Hanson American Legion post.

Japs Say Theyll Deliver Relief Supplies If

Secretary Hull said the United States received a note from Japan with conditions on picking up American relief supplies at Vladivostok. About 1,500 tons had been sent through Russian cooperation, but no satisfactory distribution plan with Japan existed. U S officials sought Red Cross interpretation of Japan stance.

Contempt Controversy Roils Mass Sedition Trial

In Washington on May 11 the mass sedition trial faced a new uproar as most defense attorneys urged contempt charges against the National Lawyers Guild for a post ruling statement claiming democracy can defend itself. Struck Gold When Above Ceiling Price Paid for Bottle Whiskey

Three Army Air Force sergeants led by Lewis E Dorsett Nicholas Czaruk and George E Reitz bought a fifth of whiskey for eight dollars on Twelfth Street in Kansas City. The OPA ceiling was three dollars and thirty two cents. Investigators followed. the clerk admitted the sale and paid fifty dollars under regulations.
