He noted support for both parties and said political pressure on Congress was rarely needed due to the league’s other work.
Dallas May 8 The death toll from Texas tornadoes rose to 75 with 70 killed and 100 others hospitalized as Frost Navarro County and Hillsboro areas suffered heavy losses. Red Cross and American Legion mobilized funds and supplies, appealing for 150000 and essential clothing and food for destitute residents.
In Sholapur a riot escalated, 27 or more killed as Gandhi supporters seized control of the 120000 population city. Police and troops fought to restore order as citizen reserves joined the effort.
D A Fesler 25 tells district court she was torn up by fear of losing her husband for her infertility and that she kidnapped the six day old son of Mr and Mrs Donnell on April 28. She said a letter from her husband stating she need not return home pushed her to act. She described taking the baby to have a photo made before leaving him in a car at Sixth and Van Buren where police found him. Trial to go to jury by 3 pm with a possible suspended sentence if convicted.

Fireboats from New York and nearby industries fought the blaze while adjoining Tidewater and Standard Oil facilities faced danger.
