Baptists Seek Million Tithes at St Louis Convention
The Southern Baptist convention opened with about 8000 delegates pledging to tithe 10 percent of income for three months. The executive committee aims to enroll one million donors to meet the 1947 10 million dollar goal. Hotels are crowded prompting delegates to seek nearby lodging as Harold E. Stassen slated to speak Friday. A premeeting provoked by Dr J Frank Norris calling for questions to Dr Louis D Newton led to a brief uproar and Norris leaving the room.
