Baptists Seek Million Tithes at St Louis Convention
About 8 000 Southern Baptists opened their convention in St Louis with a push to enroll tithers pledging 10 percent of income for three months to fund a 1947 goal of 10 million dollars. The group hopes to enroll one million donors, while hotel shortages push delegates to Belleville. Former governor Harold E Stassen will speak Friday. A pre convention meeting sparked by Dr J Frank Norris questioning Dr Louis D Newton, led to a hymn sing and Norris leaving after clashes over the right to pose questions.
