Insurance Discussed At Bricklayers State Convention

The Am arillo Hotel hosted the four day state convention of the Bricklayers organization with 150 delegates and officers attending. Harry C. Bates explained a new union insurance plan with broader benefits and stressed strict contract adherence. W J Moran spoke on conditions across Texas while noting brighter union prospects. R I to Cancel Extra Fare on Golden State Limited

Extra fare charges on the Golden State Limited between Chicago and Los Angeles will be cancelled June 9. The train, which passes through Dulhart, covers the 63 hour trip without the extra charges while maintaining the same high class service.

Rosa Morini Arrives Today PRESENT TARIFF BILL TO HOUSE

The administration tariff bill to update the 1922 Fordney McCumber act was introduced in the House at noon by Chairman Hawley. The sugar schedule sets 3 cents a pound on 96 degree sugar with a 20 percent Cuba preference making 2.4 cents a pound. Cement is taxed eight cents per 100 pounds, lumber remains free, shingles get 25 percent ad valorem duty, hides stay free, wool rises to 34 cents a pound, wheat remains 42 cents.

Huff Receives Suspended Term for Burglary

Allen Huff pleaded guilty to burglary in district criminal court and received a five year suspended sentence. John Roth also pleaded guilty to car theft and got a two year suspended term. Both cases were before the same jury.

Tired pilots leave for homes today after balloon flight

The U S Navy Balloon No 1 crew Lieut Thomas W G Settle and Ensign Wilfred Bushnell landed near Canavay 25 miles from Charlottetown after a 44 hour restless flight, challenging the 1927 endurance record of 572 miles. Officials await NAA approval before official tallies. The Detroit Times bag and crew also held a previous endurance mark of 1000 cubic meters in 1927.

Two Prisoners Still Behind Walls After Escape

Huntsville May 7 Two inmates Ed Crowder serving 41 years for bank robbery and Robert Bernard serving 30 years for burglary remain inside the state penitentiary after breaking from solitary confinement. Guards Guard Textile Mills as Strike Deepens in South

In Atlanta on May 7, National Guard companies including a machine gun unit guarded approaches to mills of American Bemberg and American Glanzstoff in Elizabethton Tennessee aided by 100 special deputy sheriffs. Rayon plants reopened with loyal workers allowed back. two departments resumed operations with more to follow.

Tire Truck Driver Hurt In Collision

J C Sheppard driver of a tire d truck for Fred Gallo was injured in an automobile collision at Seventh and J Jackson streets early this morning. He was rushed to Northwest Texas Hospital with bruises and cuts and remains under observation for possible internal injuries. His truck was struck by a car driven by J O Jordan, which then glanced off and hit a car driven by Paul Nunn of the Panhandle Motor Company.

Hoover declines to enter farm relief senate fight

President Hoover will not personally engage in the Senate clash over the debenture plan of farm relief. Administration leaders think a public move might be needed to prevent embarrassment to the farm program.

Panhandle Festival Opens With Noted Singer Morini

The Panhandle Music Festival begins tomorrow at 8 AM in Amarillo Auditorium with piano voice and violin contests. Rosalinda Morini, a 26 year old famed singer praised across Europe, is expected this afternoon. Local manager Emil Myers predicts a memorable concert tomorrow night. Sparrow Causes Citywide Power Outage at Southwestern Public Service Plant

A sparrow perched on a switchboard at the Southwestern Public Service power plant triggered a short circuit and fire cutting power to The Globe and much of the city from 11:53 a.m. to 12:54 p.m. Traffic signals failed and linotype operations stalled. many residents called for appliance repairs as crews restored service swiftly.

Nurses gather for 22nd Annual Graduate Nurses' Association of Texas meet

Approximately 100 nurses registered by noon and attended the opening session of the twenty second annual convention in a five day event. Noted doctors and nurses from national and state levels spoke, with public health nursing the focus today under Miss Mary Kennedy of Houston. Public funds raised to hire outside counsel in Walton case

Friends and sympathizers of Thomas Walton Jr and his mother Grace Walton are raising funds to hire outside counsel to aid District Attorney Edward Thomerson and associates in prosecuting Hamilton. A Fort Worth firm has been retained and talks to bring Alex Mood of Fort Worth onto the case are underway. Mood, a former Amarillo DA, is now in Amarillo as a federal prosecutor. A public fund of 1500 dollars had been raised as the subscription start.
