In Mata Morons, Captain E B Bailey and Navigation Officer Benjamin Jones of the motor vessel M P rested after four days aboard a 14 foot life boat in the Gulf of Mexico. They left Washington Beach 200 miles from their stranded crew and fought a four day storm as they sailed 30 miles to seek aid for rescuing their companions. Continuous bailings and moments of despair marked the arduous voyage.
May 2 report notes death, injuries, and damage across multiple Midwestern communities as the first tornado series hits seven states causing widespread suffering and destruction.
In Pampa on May 2 United Press reports Manny cus Twitty truck driver captured for attacking a 3 year old at Lefors. An angry crowd gathered outside the county jail but officers redirected the mob. Twitty was beaten by fellow prisoners before guards intervened. The child remained in critical condition and not expected to live.

Quiet prevailed at the Ohio state penitentiary after a tent blaze in the stockade where 800 prisoners were confined earlier in the week. Officials blamed a carelessly dropped cigarette. National Guard patrols and guard ambulances contained the fire without injuries.

W R Billingsley proprietor of a Sparenberg store is in critical condition after three gunshots during a robbery at a nearby filling station. Dawson county officers set double guards on highways to catch the assailant. The robber forced Jack Bryce and his mother to surrender, while Verna Bryce alerted Billingsley who pursued the robber with a shotgun.

Pot ter County may have tentative plans for a new courthouse ready for the May 12 and 13 meeting of county commissioners. Architect W C Townes and Page Brothers Austin were directed to proceed after a study found remodeling impractical. If approved, voters would consider a $400000 bond issue for the new structure and plans would be shown to the public before the election.
After weeks of waiting the Amarillo census will reveal the city population Sunday morning. The last district east of Polk Street, with many small hotels, completes the count this afternoon. Officials withhold advance numbers, but expect a population near fifty thousand within city limits, and will also define Greater Amarillo including suburbs.

In Kansas Mrs. Joseph A. Wasson of Marshall was killed and W. E. Brown of Waco was slightly injured when the plane they rode crashed south of Fort Scott while en route to Tulsa.

Amarillo girls Lola Pasco and Rosemary Booth beat Margarite Works and Bernice Davenport of San Angelo in the second round today. Quanah girls beat Robstown Blackburns ambulance.
The United States government argued before a Federal Court in New Orleans that the Interstate Commerce Commission acted within its powers when setting lower grain shipment rates for western railroads to Galveston than to New Orleans. Attorneys for Texas and Pacific and Louisiana and Arkansas railways contended the ICC exceeded its authority by entering economic regulation and sought port parity.
