West Seventh street will gain a new whiteway from Tyler to Davidson after a petition signed by hundreds of property owners was approved by the city commission. Seventh street will be brick paved and could extend to Georgia street in San Jacinto.

Citizens received thirty days more to complete financing after reports showed $400,000 raised, a campus secured, and a plan for a permanent endowment. The conference required a debt free campus and at least three buildings including an administration block with a minimum cost.
GEORGE TOWN March 40 Steve Machac Bohemian farmer was acquitted by a jury in the murder of his stepson Louis Machae after three trials. Louis was found shot dead in bed March 3 1926 as the state argued circumstantial proof.
United States forces continue evacuations along the Yangtse River as Cantonese gunfire harasses ships from Nanking and other points. Admiral Williams reports looting of the Fuchow Catholic mission and Marines ashore in Shanghai to protect Americans amid rising anti foreign outbreaks.
Eight miners were entombed and believed dead after a gas explosion at Saline County Coal mine No. 2 in Ledford Illinois. Three other miners were injured while 300 workers in the mine were accounted for.
A massive explosion ripped through a mountain mine eight miles back, blasting from the shaft mouth and collapsing a two story brick office building 200 feet away. Rescue teams face tough recoveries as workers are believed trapped while other employees suffer injuries from the collapse.
Miss Glenne Collett of Providence Rhode Island defeated Miss Virginia Van Wie of Chicago 4 and 2 to win the North and South women’s golf championship at Pinehurst. Collett trailed two holes after nine but won the next six to clinch the match.

Detroit March 30 Henry Ford was injured in an automobile crash last Sunday. He underwent a minor operation at Henry Ford Hospital and is resting easily with no serious complications expected. The incident occurred on Michigan avenue near the Rouge River bridge after his coupe was forced off the road by another car.
SPRINGFIELD Illinois March 30 Thirty Illinois coal mines will continue operations under the Jacksonville wage scale agreement. Harry Fishwick president of district 12 of the United Mine Workers announced the decision today.
