Mrs J B Morrison chartered an airplane piloted by W C Mays to reach her son Luther reported at the point of death in Borger. The flight departed San Antonio late Monday as darkness closed in, marking her first ever ascent.
A meeting of all school trustees of rural schools in Potter county has been called for 2 o clock Saturday afternoon April 9 by Miss Laura V Hamner county superintendent of schools. The officials will meet in Miss Hamner s office in the county courtroom to discuss important business.
The forecast for tonight and Tuesday is partly cloudy. Extreme temperatures from a year ago today were 38 and 28 degrees. Today through 1 p.m. temperatures rose from 54 at 7 a.m. to 69 degrees at 1 p.m.
Brownsville March 28 Reinforcements for all border patrols have been ordered by the Mexican government after the termination of a smuggling treaty. New instructions stress vigilance to prevent contraband including arms and ammunition from the United States.
Alma Sue Brooks, 15, daughter of Mrs. Lillie Brooks of 1005 Pierce, was struck by a motorcycle at Eleventh and Taylor streets while leaving the University of Amarillo parade line. Newton Lewis, rider of the motorcycle, was arrested and held without charge pending further investigation. Brooks was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.
Chicago March 28 Pairings for the opening round of the national high school tournament at the University of Chicago list Durant Oklahoma against Morton Cicero Illinois at 4 p.m. tomorrow and Athens Texas versus Eau Claire Wisconsin at 12 p.m. Wednesday.
Washington march 28 Will H Dilg founder and organizer of the Walton League of America died here after a year long illness He led the group in promoting conservation and outdoor ethics and was a recognized leader in the movement.
Governor Dan Moody acted on sixty five bills during the weekend in Austin. One bill concerned the state penitentiary system and Moody planned to release the full list of actions late today.
March 28 report from Washington says a large anti foreign demonstration at Shanghai West Gate prompted Admiral Williams to land a detachment from the cruiser Pittsburgh. Fifteen hundred American marines stay ashore as quiet returns to the city. Eyes now turn to Shanghai as tension remains high and forces concentrate off the port.
Refugees report Cantonese soldiers looted the home of American Dr. W. E. Macklin of the United Christian Mission society in Nanking. Behind the house they found what looked like fine white chests and smashed them open with gun butts. They were beehives. The soldiers fled in confusion.
The admiral described a very tense weekend as British and Japanese forces ashore increased after the central labor union demanded removal of all bar ricades around the international settlement and reinstatement of striking public utilities workers. Municipal council ignored the demands, deepening concern in Shanghai where many Americans and foreigners have fled the interior.
Detroit March 28 Henry Ford counsel moved to block Aaron Sapiro from amending his declaration of 141 libels in the $1,000,000 suit. Sapiro sought to eliminate 54 allegations and revise wording. The judge took the motion under advisement and would rule at 2 pm as jurors were excused for the day.
Day Desk Sergeant A G Green Motorcycle Patrolman C H Handy and C 5 Walker manager of B BE Walker s garage near the police station were arrested by Chief Gaither on swindle charges. Bond set at 1000 each. Alleged reward for a Buick coupe stolen from J A Clark of Mid West Exploration. Handys claimed recovery of the car near the smelter and he is accused of taking 100 in rewards total with 60 shared with Green and Walker. The men are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Governor Dan Moody questioned the validity and practicality of a bill passed by the fortieth legislature that eliminates the offense of manslaughter. The measure, recommended by Moody and backed by the administration, prompted the inquiry in a letter to Attorney General Claude Pollard from Austin dated March 28.
A new secret society of pronounced bolshevist character has been organized in the Philippine Islands. It is called Los Legionarios Del Pueblo. Membership runs into the thousands in Manila and the provinces, and the movement is spreading rapidly.
Amarillo residents rally behind a finance drive for higher Christian education. About 2000 high school students led a citywide parade while committees push past 75 000 in new gifts. Northwest Texas Methodist conference plans a special session with over 600 ministers and laymen and a noon banquet at the Herring hotel as funds, real estate, and support aim to reach a half million.
Amarillo National Bank led a list of buyers pledging to purchase lots with amounts ranging from $750 to $5,000. The roster includes numerous individuals and firms such as C. R. Austin, BE, B. Adams, W. R. Armstrong, Frank Adkinsson, Leland Abbott, Walter Blackburn, J. J. Crume, Rollan Cartwright, W. P. Cooper, Christy-Dolph Construction Co, and many others. The total commitments reflect broad support for the lot sale, with several entries at $1,000 or more and several $2,000 plus contributions. (Continued on page two).
dispatches from Arrandas report sixty rebels killed and 100 captured while 44 federal soldiers died and 20 were wounded in a clash at Cerro Picachon last week. About 700 insurgents faced 2,000 federal troops until ammo ran low and the rebels were repulsed.
In Borger on March 27 two masked men robbed the Hib cafe on Main Street after entering at 2 am. They forced guests to stand with hands up while one took cash from the register and the other moved to the rear. Over $150 was taken. A description of the duo was given to officers.
Special to The Globe reports Marland hospital at Marland camp south of Borger was totally destroyed by a fire when a gas line in a ward burst. Three patients were evacuated as Bur ger ambulances and the fire department responded. hospital run by Dr. Draper.
Completion of a dam at Camp Warner is due within ten days, providing a swimming pool for 1,000 Panhandle Boy Scouts this summer. The pool will be two to eight feet deep and other improvements are underway for the annual Panhandle Scout encampments.
The Rock Island passenger train and a freight train collided one mile west of Banner between Oklahoma City and El Reno. Six people were injured. twenty freight cars derailed into a ditch. Blame for the accident was not fixed. Injured include M. L. Tolliver of Wheeler Texas with cuts to head and face.
