Two robberies and a burglary occurred Wednesday night resulting in about 1500 dollars in loot. Thieves stole 21 cases of cigarettes from J. M. Radford Wholesale Grocery at 100 Fillmore Street, each case valued at four dollars. An unmasked bandit robbed Maximum Service Station at 2008 West Sixth Avenue, taking five dollars from a young attendant. A masked robber held up Van Buren Drug Store No 2 at 900 West Seventh Avenue, stealing about 75 dollars from Ray Warren and Homer Peninger. Burglary of the wholesale warehouse was found Thursday morning after a rear door break.

Soldiers Protect Nine Negroes After Attack on Two White Girls
SCOTTSBORO Ala March 26 About 70 National Guardsmen and sheriff and his nine deputies and Southern citizens today preserved quiet around the jail here where the nine Negroes are held for an alleged attack on two white girls who were bumming their way home a freight car. A mob that varied from 100 to 300 including local citizens and mountaineers who came to town astride mules and in automobiles menaced the jail last night and the guardsmen were called. The crowd lingered for some time but as the cold of a mountain night increased all but a score dispersed to more comfortable places. Physicians said the girls were not badly hurt.

Noted leper worker dies at 87 in Hawaii
Ira Dutton known as Brother Joseph, a Trappist monk famed for years of work among Molokai lepers, died in Honolulu at 87 after a long illness.
