The Seventh District Court rules a surviving partner cannot sign oil and gas leases affecting minor children in the Dial Ranch case. The Dial siblings Gertrude 20 and David 17 are retained owners of a one fourth share in 11,044 acres of oil lands in Hutchinson County once valued at about 30 million dollars. The ruling holds that probate authority did not authorize the leases for the children’s interests.

Kiersey Carter County deputy sheriff W. C. Kiersey was killed during a gun fight as he questioned two men about a stolen car. Ardmore officer Vernon Cason was wounded and suspicion initially focused on the Davis brothers.
An air of unrest hung over Stateville and Joliet penitentiaries as an inquest prepared into the death of Raymond Barney, a Black inmate killed in last Wednesday's uprising. Guards kept tight watch while reports said some prisoners confined to cells planned to burn mattresses to trigger a riot, with State police patrolling the grounds.

Johnson a 46 year old refinery teamster boss testified he killed Ottis Lee Adams after learning Adams, a married ambulance driver, had improper relations with Johnsons daughter Elizabeth and had caused her death. Johnson described a string of personal troubles including family illnesses and his mothers death as context to the killing.
