George V. Koons of Lubbock sent a $300 bonds payment to the Buy a Bomber drive. He asked that the amount be counted toward the campaign while explaining he heard about the effort on KGNC.
Amarillo officials and business groups push defense era plans as labor shortages spark calls for homes, utilities, and recreation. The Chamber of Commerce led by W. W. Gibson and the city commission meet to gauge supplies, rents, and new housing efforts amid wartime constraints.

A 16 year old boy seeks after school and Saturday work with experience in truck and tractor driving. He lists addresses at 1307 North Harrison Street and 518 North West Second Street and requests a farm or ranch job near his location. He notes losing car keys and a Hall Bates license holder ring with his driver’s license and an office key.
The Amarillo courthouse records list numerous warranty deeds transferring properties in San Jacinto Heights Morning side Ridgeware and Morningside to buyers including City of Amarillo and private parties with prices from $1 to $8,750 and include a few marriages. Notable transfers involve Horace Jackson, J. L. Nunn, and Leon Smith among others.
In Zagreb a band of Serbs ambushed Eugen Kvaterski near Bosnia, about 12 miles from the city, killing two of his guards. Ten of the attackers were killed in the ensuing clash. Kvaterski and others escaped unharmed.
Betty Stewart received a three year prison term after pleading guilty to breaking into a residence and stealing clothing valued at more than $50. She had a prior suspended sentence on record.
Complaints from Amarillo bicycle riders say drivers and pedestrians ignore cyclists rights. They cite doors opening into bikes and jaywalkers forcing riders to swerve risking injury. A dealer notes a new Victory bike arriving after April 1 to be sold locally.
The McCoy twins Roy and Ray McCoy, both 18 and from Canyon, joined the Marines and were sent to Oklahoma City. Other recruits include James W. Broderick of Amarillo, Carl E. Bryant of Portales, John A. Kimbrell of Portales, and several more from Amarillo, Borger, Friona, Paducah, Follett, Lakeview.
County commissioners rejected Dr. George Oyse’s resignation as health officer but granted a leave of absence until his active duty return as a navy lieutenant commander. The vacancy remained unfilled.
Mrs. R. J. Porter aged 85 died Sunday at her La Junta home. Survived by six children including Mrs. W. J. Baird of Canyon. Grandchildren Mrs. John L. McCarty and Bill Baird of Amarillo visiting. Funeral set for 2:30 Tuesday at La Junta. A pioneer, she spent two months last summer with daughter Mrs. W. J. Baird in Canyon.
Funeral services for Mrs. Howard FE. Savage, longtime Amarillo Fire Department employee, will be held at 3 p m tomorrow at Boxwell Brothers Chapel with Rev E R Foster officiating. Interment in Llano Cemetery. She died Sunday in Carlsbad New Mexico.
Mrs Grace Roomes of Dumas died last night at a local hospital aged 54 She is survived by her husband J W Roomes daughter Mary Roomes two sons William and Franklin Roomes all of Dumas her mother Mrs Allie Norman and sisters Mrs Mary Lasswell and Mrs Minnie Murray of Neodesha Kan The body is in state at Blackbun Shaw Chapel and will be sent to Neodesha tomorrow Funeral services and burial will be in Neodesha.
Peter B. Biggins of Seattle will speak at Amarillo Municipal Auditorium on Thursday night April 2. The free lecture titled Christian Science How to Apply It is extended by First Church of Christ Scientist Amarillo to the public. Potter County grand jury to reconvene Wednesday.
The county tax office shows no rush for the 1942 auto tag purchase with only a week left before the deadline. Fewer than 1,000 residents have registered their cars so far, signaling a slow turnout.
