J. E. Anderson was found guilty and sentenced to four months in the county jail in the county court yesterday. He allegedly bought a small lumber bill from Long-Bell Lumber to gain cash by passing a check, and was arrested after offering another check to a second lumber concern. He reportedly received $5.10 in change and is said to be from Minnesota, recently in Amarillo.
The Methodists of Northwest Texas plan to raise a half million dollars for Amarillo College endowment if the city contributes 200000 for an administration building. Committees of business leaders will start Monday to raise the sum, with Dr. R E L Morgan stating early completion is likely. The effort aims to establish Grade A senior college status and elevate Amarillo College among regional denominational institutions.
Sheriff records report fourteen men arrested and jailed in three days on charges of disturbing the peace and intoxication. Ambulance service referenced with Blackburn and phone 5211.

In Coleman district court a jury found C. W. Watson guilty of the two year suspended sentence for the murder of Jack McMath. The trial ending with a three and a half hour deliberation after 5 p m. Watson claimed McMath had threatened to kill him or run him from town. McMath's divorced wife testified for the defense.
Lara Mae Strickle a Perrin school girl aged 17 was found dead. Preliminary viscera analysis is incomplete with results due Monday. Robert E Crow Jr 22 her alleged sweetheart is jailed in Jack County on murder charges. Inquest held no findings announced. Doctors say she was about to become a mother.
City engineer H. B. Jones is preparing renumbering and redistricting maps for Amarillo. Maps won’t be ready until May 5 and the system cannot start before June 10. Jones warns many house numbering errors will need adjustment.
United Press report from Kansas City details a fuel distribution battle among J L Knorpp interests seeking entry via Citizens Industrial Gas of Texas against the L Doherty company owner of the Kansas City distributing system. Coal miners and operators warn gas use could replace vast coal output and cost thousands of jobs.
Reports of a fatal explosion near Pampa could not be confirmed after checks with hospitals doctors and a field search near Wheeler. Rumors tied to Dade Thornton brother of Tex Thornton prompted a false belief of a fatality as Mr Thornton and a companion found no injury or death.
Mexico City official Joaquin Gallo, head of the Tacubaya Observatory, says a quake lasting minutes longer on March 23 could have caused half the city’s buildings to collapse, based on early assessments.
Senator Woodbridge N. Ferris of Michigan died in Washington at 6 16 this morning after a weeklong illness from pneumonia. The 83 year old veteran of Michigan politics had battled illness following a severe cold and earlier plans to move to Battle Creek if his condition worsened.
The death of Senator Ferrin of Michigan gives Republicans one more seat in the Senate for a 44 to 45 split with one Farmer Labor member and two vacancies. Governor Green, a Republican, will appoint Ferrin’s successor to serve until the November election, while two other vacancies exist in Illinois and Pennsylvania with Frank L. Smith and William B. Vare pursuing claims.
The Good Gray Governor of Michigan dies after rapid decline from illness and pneumonia. Present at the bedside were wife Mrs Ferris, two sons Carleton and Phelps Ferris, Mrs Ferris' brother John McCloud, and Ferris Institute vice-president Garrit Masselink. He had surprised the state by winning a Senate seat in 1922 as a Democrat, breaking a 70 year Republican majority.
Judge Tom Turner spoke to a high school history class in the auditorium this morning. He chose The Early History of the Panhandle as his subject and recounted experiences from the days of Billy the Kid.
Senator Nye of North Dakota defends his Oil committee probe against New York Governor Smith in a March 23 letter. Nye accuses Smith of aiding "every scoundrel" by undermining confidence in the committee during its investigation and recalls Smith's 1924 support for John W. Davies amid party maneuvering.
Borger Lions raised over 500 dollars for crippled children in the Panhandle. An impromptu clinic earlier examined twelve children with five needing care. five will be taken to Oklahoma City for treatment. Miss Medora Duncan led the effort with local medical society members coordinating.
