Amarillo launches a citywide University of Amarillo fundraising drive tomorrow at 1 pm. Over 200 workers will canvass the Panhandle, selling lots in University Park for 750 to 1250 dollars with 20 percent down and 7 percent interest. Men Disappear After Downtown Motor Car Crash

A downtown crash at 3 pm destroyed two cars. L. D. Alexander of Amarillo drove a Buick coupe and was struck by a Durant touring car carrying three unknown men who fled before police arrived. Alexander said his car stood still when hit by the 50 mph Durant. Hospitals were alerted to watch for the injured member of the trio.

Standard Oil Official Dead in Baton Rouge

C. H. Clarke, president of Standard Oil Company of Louisiana, was found dead in his bathroom this morning. The parish coroner said Clarke had been dead six to eight hours and had suffered heart pains recently. He had spent the day with W. C. Teagle and other New Jersey officials during an inspection trip.

Crops Suffer From Texas Freeze Across Wichita Falls

In Wichita Falls on March 21, gardens and fruit crops suffered from a Texas freeze. The cold snaps produced sleet and snow, with temperatures dropping to 27 degrees. Bettis Murder Trial Postponed On Eyewitness Absence

The murder trial of H K Bettis for the Christmas morning shooting of Carl Cox was continued to May 2 due to the absence of former Patrolman Simmons the sole eye-witness. A special venire of 150 was excused and Bettis claims self defense after Cox allegedly attacked him near Fourth and Lincoln Street. Cox died shortly after the two shots were fired.

Three narrowly escape death in motor car spill

Mr and Mrs James Gibson and Mrs Fay L Wadley escaped serious harm when the car they drove overturned on a sharp curve on the Hereford Canyon highway near Ambarger. Mrs Gibson and Mrs Wadley suffered severe cuts and bruises while Mr Gibson had head and back injuries and possible internal injuries. They were taken to Amarillo by Griggs Ambulance.

Cotton futures rally on census ginnings report

New York March 21 The Associated Press cotton futures rallied two dollars sixty cents to three dollars per bale after the census bureau published a report showing 17 687 607 bales ginned for the 1926 27 crop, compared with unofficial estimates over 18 000 000 bales. The item closes with ads for Steinway and Vose pianos and local businesses.

Siege in Shanghai Foreign Quarter Kills Two

Naval forces landed from all warships in the Whangpoo to defend the foreign settlements after nationalist forces entered Shanghai.
