The torpedo room of the submarine S-4, crewed by six men for 72 hours after a collision with the coastguard destroyer, is examined after its retrieval. Six bodies were recovered, including Lieutenant Graham Newell Fitch of Washington, D. C. Evidence shows a desperate effort to halt flooding as water breached the chamber and the watertight door was battered shut.
