The annual navy appropriation bill reported to the House by the appropriation committee reveals the largest expenditure for the naval establishment since before the Washington Arms Conference of 1922.
The proposed 1920s naval appropriations total about $869 million for continuing ship and aircraft programs. It covers eight cruisers two submarines and aviation funding with $51.5 million for planes and $1.8 million for start on two large dirigibles. The committee cautions costs will rise with ongoing shipbuilding and future vessel authorizations.

In Bangor Maine on March 21 a rumor spread that Capt Walter Hinchcliffe and the Hon Elsie Mackay’s plane from England last Tuesday had been found with their bodies near Patten Maine. The AP could not confirm the report after careful checks.
Two Potter County cases affirmed by the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin keep Ben W. Stratton and J. D. Payne with 25 year terms. Stratton's murder conviction and Payne's 25 year sentence for a criminal assault, including an alleged attack on a 15 year old Amarillo girl, stand without court intervention.
Doris McDonald, an American girl, was spared a Canadian gallows death. Instead she will serve life in prison likely at Kingston Ontario, with Governor General Lord Willingdon signing the order. The case drew plea from her foster mother Dr Frances Palmer in Oklahoma City and from her Chicago-based mother Mrs Hazel Greco.
At Geneva on March 21 the United States embassy said Washington does not currently back radical Soviet disarmament aims. Hugh S. Gibson of the American delegation argued the U S prefers pursuing a general pact as a step toward disarmament but will not support delaying work on existing projects for the radical measure. Jonkheer Rutgers of Holland and KE Hennings of Sweden criticized the Soviet plan as unfeasible.
Governor Smith abandons silence as he consents to use his name in the Massachusetts presidential primaries. The authorization was filed by Democratic state chairman Charles H. McGlue with the Massachusetts secretary of state.
West Texas Gas Co and the Amarillo Prairie Oil and Gas units announce a two year lease of an entire sixth floor in the Fisk Building to house their Amarillo headquarters and land and purchasing departments. About 40 Prairie employees will be housed there as plans to add to or replace their building are considered.
In the Murra district near Jalapa, rebels loyal to General Sandino vanished after machine gun and air attacks by U S Marines. Marines swept the area from Jalapa, reporting no solid rebel casualties, while separate fighting near Telpaneca left two rebels dead and a pack train encounter.
A new well in Gray county Dan Ciger No 10 blew in late yesterday spraying oil over the surrounding territory. It is estimated the well produced about 1900 barrels in the first twenty four hours. This marks another large producer in Gray county.
The Associated Press reports Morris Nadel, a Cleveland bootlegger who shielded Pat McDermott, and an unidentified companion were found slain in their automobile on a deserted road near Cleveland. McDermott had been among those convicted in the killing of Don R. Mellett, the Canton editor.
