The House approved a soldiers' bonus bill differing from Harding’s vetoed plan. It provides twenty year endowment insurance for most veterans with cash to those earning under 50 dollars monthly, and follows a 40 minute debate between Representative Green of Iowa and Representative Collier of Mississippi. Treadway opposed any bonus.
Amarillo Lions club members will travel to Canyon for a regular meeting at West Texas State Teachers College. An excellent program is planned and about 200 attendees are expected. They will travel by car in about twenty loads, with departure around 6:30 and return near 10.
A five officer naval board was detailed to draft plans for administering the naval oil reserves if returned to the government. Acting Secretary Roosevelt announced the move emphasizing strict conservation of the navy oil as the guiding principle for the new program.

London reports the British government has decided not to proceed with establishing a naval base at Singapore. The decision was announced in the House of Commons on March 18.
The Dallas University Club outlines a unique project to build a club house on the roof of the ten story terminal building on Commerce street. Concrete bridges would link roofs of Wood and Jackson streets creating roof gardens tennis courts and play grounds for members. A fifty year lease is sought to secure the venture.
Woodrow Wilson followed party leaders in choosing cabinet members who were active in politics. He hoped to move reform by converting conservatives to his side and avoided direct clashes with Congress. His skill at presenting proposals helped keep Democratic support strong, but losing public trust later allowed opponents to erode his grip.
A federal grand jury will be impaneled within two weeks to consider evidence of criminal conspiracy in the naval oil scandal. A man signed as Arthur McKnight was arrested by Sheriff Whitaker in Amarillo after forging seven worthless checks. A local business man alerted police as the suspect admitted the forgery and was jailed.
Indianapolis March 18 jury selection for Governor Warren McCary on embezzlement and larceny charges continued with 125 talesmen questioned. Of 35 examined yesterday 22 were rejected and 11 remained in the jury box for further questioning.

The government weather bureau issues a forecast for tonight and tomorrow showing generally fair skies with a slight chance of cloudiness tomorrow and higher temperatures. At 1 PM the temperature stood at 31 degrees, while the lowest night reading was 19 degrees.
In El Paso Texas today five bandits attacked a Federal Reserve payroll guard unit. Guard William H. Mears and bystander Anastacia Lopez were killed while two other guards were wounded. The robbers fled in an automobile without taking the money. An armed posse pursues the bandits.
The second day of the Army Round the World flight began at 9:48 this morning from Mather Field Sacramento. Major Frederick Martin led three cruisers north toward Eugene Oregon and Vancouver Barracks Washington with clear skies and light winds reported. In San Diego Lieut Arie Nelson started the first leg of his 25 000 mile flight from Rockwell Field aiming to meet his brother airmen in Seattle or Vancouver.
Washington reports the senate committee investigating Attorney General Daugherty issued subpoenas for Secretary Mellon and Secretary Weeks. Mellon will answer to charges tied to Gaston Means who says he conducted an undercover probe of Mellon's supposed liquor deal links. Weeks will testify on the aircraft case related to Means receiving 100000 in thousands and turning it over to Jesse Smith.
Wichita Falls capitalists establish a new drilling location in North Carson field. Staley Lankford & Shenault take the site with plans to move drilling equipment. Staley owns a major Wichita Falls office building. the other partners are prominent bankers.
The Senate adopted the Norris amendment by 68 to 7. The change moves inauguration from March 4 to the third Monday in January after the election and requires Congress to meet the first Monday in that month.
Austin Tex March 18 A W Cole congressman elect from Austin whose right to a seat is under fire is in Washington arguing with a committee. He is accompanied by his attorney J F Carl of San Antonio.
Reports from Tokio describe a Saturday night quake centered near the seas bottom off Cireial. Kashitu on Saghalien suffered collapsed houses and numerous casualties as fissures opened and the Nayori river rose rapidly. Relief efforts are underway for the injured and homeless.
Four persons are jailed in Chicago as suspects in a diamond theft trust being probed by two international detective agencies and Chicago and New York police. The losses total about 8 million dollars in the trust's transactions. Morris Levinson, Lawson Joffe, James Probasco, and Julie Smith were taken into custody last night.
Reports received in Amarillo say Texas No. three on the N. W. of Sec. 108 Burnett ranch flowed oil yesterday. No volume was reported though oil covered the derrick. Oil men expect first oil around 2975 feet with a second at about 3050 feet as drilling progresses.

A flock of 340 Black Leghorn hens owned by G. W. Edmondson in San Saba Texas is believed to have set a local record after Edmondson previously collected 339 eggs in a single day from the same hens.
Berlin March 18: Grover Cleveland Bergdoll, the American draft evader, says he is open to anything reasonable in exchange for returning to the United States. He has not received a definite offer and has agreed to no proposition. He will consider return only under clearly defined conditions and terms.
Witness William Orr described large cash payments totaling about 25 000 to Howard Mannington connected to liquor withdrawals to “keep the cases out of court” as Senate investigators widen inquiries. Subpoenas targeting Mellon Weeks Haynes and staff broaden the probe. Orr also says he collected 10 000 for the Republican campaign in 1920 and passed it to party leaders.
Galveston Texas March 18 the annual bathing girl revue is practically assured. The Galveston Chamber of Commerce must raise 1000 dollars while 4000 dollars have been pledged by the Merchants Retail Association. The parade is planned for May 10 13 or 17 19.
Three small business buildings in Dallas were destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated at 12000 dollars. The E J Jackson barber shop the Dixieland Electric shop and the Paul Motley cafe were burned.
