The Weatherly lake near Borger built by J F Weatherly will open as an experiment on Saturday and Sunday April 1 and 2 allowing catfish and possibly perch with a 50 cent pole fee. If most fish meet size limits the lake may stay open. watchman will collect funds to cover costs and excess will fund further stocking.
Mrs Mary Roberts Warner was elected president of the Panhandle Music Festival at the annual Teachers' Luncheon and business session. Miss Mae Beth Lawson became vice president, Mrs B B Holland secretary, Mrs E B Graham re elected treasurer, Emil F Myers re elected press reporter, and Mrs J W Sanders named contest director for 1940. A large group of music teachers attended, with proposed organizational changes for next year.
A. B. Parr of 1304 Fast Tenth Avenue returns from Lubbock after attending the funeral of his sister Mrs. O. T. Walker of Petersburg who died Monday night. Funeral services were held yesterday. survivors include three daughters and several brothers and sisters across Texas and nearby states.
Amarillo firemen answered an alarm five miles north of the city at 11 53 last night. They fought a shed fire and returned to quarters at 12 40 this morning. The loss was not large but officials feared sparks could ignite dry prairie grass.
R M McKinley farm placement supervisor for the Texas State Employment Service met today with C E Peake district supervisor and H G Hamrick Potter County auditor and labor leader. He said the service is checking acreage quotas labor needs and other farm placement matters and will proceed to the cotton country on the South Plains.
A 17 year old resident of Pampa was taken into federal custody after police fingerprinted him at headquarters in Amarillo. He is accused of sketching copies of Uncle Sam’s currency that prosecutors accept as legal tender, and he spent last night in Amarillo City Jail.
Mrs E L Blanks filed suit in the 108th district court against the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway seeking 31278 in damages for the accidental death of B J Blanks at a Clarendon grade crossing in March 1938. The case cites a death connected incident and names the defendant railway company.
Faulty wiring at the Hotel Lenox caused the electric sign to read Hot Nox, sparking local amusement. The report notes nine diseases added to new 1038 laws in the U S, listing scarlet fever diphtheria influenza pneumonia and appendicitis.

The YMCA and YWCA at Amarillo College sponsor a joint visitation in the college auditorium tonight at 7 30. Musicians from Spanish American churches will perform under Fidel Reyes. College students give talks outlining objectives of the two organizations. Woodrow Baldwin invites the public to attend. Kentucky's court of appeals issues over 600 opinions yearly.
Dean A H Leidigh of the Texas Tech College of Agriculture will address the Amarillo ex-students association at the Amarillo Hotel this evening. The program begins at 6 45. Leidigh joined the Tech faculty in 1925 and earlier worked with the U S Department of Agriculture in Amarillo and Channing from 1903 to 1908 introducing milo as a plains crop. He also served on the Texas State Planning Board with Tom Cotton of Amarillo.
The Sam Houston Junior High School Band presents its Eighth Annual Spring Concert Sunday at the Municipal Auditorium. The 79 piece group directed by S M Bagwell will perform light classical and popular pieces with solo selections. A band chorus arrangement of Romberg Maytime will be performed by the band and girls chorus under Miss Marion James. Works by Von Suppe Straus Fillmore Deppen Carmichael will be featured along with Stardust. Admission is free and the public is invited.
The Blue Lodges of the Panhandle announce a regional Masonic meeting in Amarillo on April 29. About 1,000 Masons are expected, with Henry Lyle as district deputy grand master leading officials from the grand lodge.
Amarillo police hunt a gang dubbed groan box burglars who cash in nickels from automatic music machines. The same technique marked each break in cafes last week including the Kiva Drive Inn on West Sixteenth Avenue. Entry came by smashing a window. the inner cash register was empty and cigarette machines were untouched.
S. H. Condron professor of government at West Texas State College Canyon will guest speak tomorrow at 8 pm at the Allison Park School Parent Teachers Association meeting. The Tolzien Accordion Band under Arthur Nizzi will perform selections for PTA guests.
Lieut Col F A Byrne district recruiting officer from Fort Logan Colorado inspected the Amarillo recruiting station yesterday. He enlisted two ex soldiers Eugene Graves of Amarillo and Charles A Mohr Jr of Childress into the Regular Army Reserve. The army recruiting service aims to reach 75000 in the reserve and seeks ex soldiers under 36 in good health for enlistment at CCC camps posts or recruiting offices. Ex soldiers should contact Sgt R A Jackson at the Amarillo Recruiting Station postoffice building.
Amarillo Chamber of Commerce manager Carl Hinton said the tourist season is starting early with a flood of inquiries about points of interest travel conditions and accommodations. He noted two queries arrived from Bowling Green Missouri and Bedhead Kentucky and predicted travel will peak when school vacations begin.
Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt will speak in Harlingen tonight and in San Antonio tomorrow night as part of her two remaining Texas lectures before departing for the Pacific Coast. The Edinburg dispatch notes the schedule in mid March.
In Henderson a memorial service will be held Saturday across from Pleasant Hill Cemetery for the 297 children and teachers who perished in the New London school disaster on March 18, 1937.
Highway Patrolmen Bill Abbott and John Nunn escorted the Kiltie Band of Oklahoma City from Amarillo to Shamrock. The band travels from the Albuquerque fiesta to the St Patrick s Day celebration in Shamrock. The band was a featured attraction at the Will Rogers Highway celebration in Amarillo last summer. A majority of district patrolmen will work in Shamrock during the celebration starting tomorrow.
Charles B. Hoskinson 31 of Amarillo died after a long illness at his home 318 Harrison Street following a prolonged illness. He worked as a truck driver at the Conchas Dam project in New Mexico. He is survived by his mother Mrs. A. H. Hancock and sister Mrs. Frankie Bosley of Amarillo. Funeral services tomorrow at 3 pm from Boxwell Brothers Funeral Chapel with Rev. E R Foster officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
