The county tax office expects a rush to issue new license plates before April 1. With 1,200 plates sold in Potter County and about 10,000 remaining, current sales of around 100 daily must jump to nearly 1,000 per day to complete the job. Highway officers will be involved if the target is not met.
Carl Hinton, national president of the Will Rogers Highway Association, returns a silver dollar salary to Monte Blue, elected president at the Albuquerque convention. A boy entertainer gave the dollar to Blue, who did not keep it. the retiring president explains the gesture can be cherished by the boy and suggests Blue reply with a mounted silver dollar. Amarillo members were informed by letter of Albuquerque action, with a resolution recommended by the executive board and unanimously passed.
Directors and committee chairmen met at the Silver Grill to map the annual membership campaign for Amarillo Chamber of Commerce. The fiscal year ends April 15 and the drive aims to boost the budget by 5000 to support aviation and industrial programs. Twelve new directors to be elected Saturday.
A message notes officers elected at the March 13 meeting set a charge within thirty to sixty days while President Hinton completes the 1988 fiscal year work. Headquarters stay in Amarillo for sixty days and members are urged to cooperate. The directorate will be out in two or three days and any outstanding balances should be sent to Amarillo. The convention was harmonious with elections by acclamation and the new officers will take over sixty days from March 13.
