Nearly a mile of pipeline has been laid to carry Amarillo’s own gas supply at 22 12 cents per thousand cubic feet into the city core. Work continues day and night along Third Avenue from the Texas Company refinery as the HuBer Petroleum Company supplies gas to the city at 6 cents per thousand. About 10,000 application cards were mailed to prospective customers and responses come in at 2,000 per day. In Havana on March 9 assailants raided the Karikato weekly editor Julius Gaun aurd at his office, wrecked the plant and fired shots. One bullet struck the editor as the attackers fled. Police investigated the incident as a violent assault at the humorous magazine’s premises.

Sandino claims five recent battles with Nicaraguan national guardsmen, reporting 150 guardsmen killed and equipment captured. A March 1 engagement near Segovia allegedly involved 1,000 Sandinistas taking Daraili, with 100 guardsmen killed and a U S Marine relief column driven off. The Marine Corps confirms one guardsman and three civilians wounded in the five latest engagements.
Director Amos W. W. Woodcock said the prohibition unit may gain an air force. A Mexican plane seized in Texas with crew charged for liquor smuggling could be forfeited and used to locate illicit stills in favorable terrain.

They travel from Clinton Oklahoma via Pampa to inspect the new line north of Amarillo and the Canadian River bridge under construction. Twenty recommendations from the States Oil Advisory Committee aim to pull the industry from its dilemma. Proposals include proration, halting over development, price increases, import limits, and resource conservation. The committee urges permanent operation to settle inter-state production, pricing, transport, and conservation disputes.
Reports from Reach Municipal Airport and Albuquerque indicate Captain Ira Waker or Baker boarded a non stop flight from Reach to the Atlantic coast. Albuquerque observers said the craft passed overhead heading east early today. Wichita sightings failed by 11:55 A M suggesting the plane took a direct route north of Amarillo.
The Texas Company says it has matched crude oil price cuts in North and West Texas as Humble Oil and Refining and Standard of Louisiana reduce rates. Humble announced 12 to 40 cent cuts in North and West Texas, with Gulf Coast unmoved. Standard Oil of Louisiana cut North Louisiana and Arkansas crude by up to 66 cents a barrel, while Bellevue, La. oil dropped to four and a half cents per barrel. Receivers of Coaden Oil Co. said they would meet Humble’s announced price reduction.
The All-American Life Insurance Company conducted its first annual stockholders meeting at 10 o clock in the Oliver Eakle building. More than 200 stockholders were represented. The meeting concluded with a luncheon at the Amarillo Hotel at noon.

Virgil Kirkland of Gary faces trial for murder and assault in the death of his high school sweetheart Arlene Drayes. The case, heard in Valparaiso Indiana, is expected to go to the jury by nightfall with courtroom officials awaiting a verdict.
In Detroit on March 10 Angelo Livecchi is linked to the Buckley murder at the La Salle Hotel. Gus Reno testified Livecchi summoned three men moments before the radio announcer was shot in the lobby. Reno then touched Joe Bommarito when asked to identify a man similar to those who entered the hotel.
Two Am arillo police officers found Dan Roberts at 2:15 AM at the Fred H. Galle Tire Shop 400 West Seventh Avenue with a screwdriver. He could not justify his presence or the tool, charged with attempted burglary. The shop had seen three recent burglaries, including a stolen safe later found along a highway with valuables scattered.
Two Texas rangers and a Justice Department investigator arrived in Dallas to probe the kidnapping of attorney George Clifton Edwards and his clients J Coder and Lewie Hurst, accused Communist organizers abducted from city hall steps after Edwards secured their release. District Attorney William McGraw plans grand jury action. Edwards and his son are to be summoned.
