Abilene Texas March 9 The 104th District Court grand jury was summoned to reconsider a murder charge against Virginia Pigg filed after her husband M I Pigg a traveling salesman was shot at their home. Pigg said he attacked her and she fired to save her life. The 18 month old child Patricia Lee witnessed the scene.
Funeral services for James Brice Beard a 72 year old Amarillo merchant were held at 4 30 PM from his home with Rev F A Foster and Rev E B Fincher officiating. Pallbearers included J N Vernon J Frank Wright Jr Tom M Bruner Ernest O Northcutt J J Service and G A McCullough. Burial was in Llano Cemetery with Masonic orders in charge. Beard who came to Amarillo in 1900 from Alvord Texas built Killough Davies clothing business. He retired from merchandising and later dealt in vestments. Surviving are his wife Nannie Beard two sons J Miller Beard and Grady L Beard a daughter Mrs T H Benton and a brother C B Beard plus five nephews.
The Texas Senate voted 26 to 2 to authorize mayors to perform marriage ceremonies and minister oaths of office. Loy of Sherman and Parl of Dallas voted no, Woodul of Houston cautioned about calls at odd hours. The body also approved venue changes for civil cases, costs shifted to the county of filing. The session aimed to aid 100,000 Texas schoolchildren and allowed districts to issue interest bearing warrants to teachers.

The City Club petitioned for Crain’s removal, citing 12 alleged failures to prosecute graft. Gas applications flood City Mall as the city’s new gas contract with Huber Petroleum drives five to seven cent rates and rapid card return.
Police raid Sunday night on a game of galloping dominoes led to wholesale arrests of negroes who Monday morning faced a crowded corporation court at city hall. The judge warned it may look like bargain day but it isn’t as gaming offenders vagrancy and drunkenness charges await trial in one of the largest dockets in weeks.

Borger marked its fifth birthday with a two mile main street parade under clear skies. The American Legion directed events with a 6 pm program at the Legion Home. Schools were dismissed and more than 500 Amarilloans attended, while bands from Amarillo Junior College and the Senior High School joined in.
Roy T. Pace, injured Sunday night in a motor car collision at East Third Avenue and Houston Street, left St. Anthony's hospital Monday morning. He sustained a deep temple gash and was in a Ford with J. T. Pace. a Hudson driven by David Campbell of Detroit, Michigan, collided, causing both cars to overturn. Only Pace was injured.
Rose Hartwick Thorpe, now 80, will listen from San Diego as her 1867 poem Curfew Shall Not Ring Tonight is dramatized on the Time program at 7:45 PM Thursday on the WABC coast to coast network. Plans include the author as a guest via her home receiver.

After a day of exams by J. B. Robertson and Roy Johnson, the estate board of barber examiners held a one day meeting in Amarillo. Barbers from several district cities attended a banquet this evening in room 204 4 of the Herring Hotel following the Imperial Barber Shop exams.
Judge W R Elyofp Abilene chairman of the Texas Highway Commission planned to leave Laredo today by plane on the third leg of his journey from Abilene to Panama for the Inter American Highway Commission meeting. His immediate destination was Mexico City.
Eight year old William Erlandson Jr was bound to a North Western railroad track by four playmates who said they disliked him. He struggled for about 30 minutes before rolling off as a train approached. A railroad worker found him and took him home, while the boys confessed to police the motive was they did not like him.
