Purchase Site for School in Eable Addition

Amarillo officials announce a millon dollar bonds vote next month for new school buildings. The board bought two blocks in the Eakle addition for a site and playgrounds, to begin construction this spring or summer.

Old Amarillo hotel on Polk Street razed by fire

The Amarillo hotel, erected in 1889 by J. B. Sanborn, burned today. Once a landmark at Third and Polk, it helped draw cattlemen and growth to the Panhandle. It housed riders and traders, with Will Rogers among its visitors, and preceded Amarillo’s brick hotel opened in 1910.

Carpenter Killed By Falling Scaffold Here

W F Grossman a 31 year old Brennan Construction employee died at a local hospital after a scaffold fall. Initial exams suggested minor injuries but X rays showed a broken spine and serious internal damage. Body held at Griggs funeral chapel and to be sent to Dennison Texas with his wife and four year old son joining for burial.

Blizzard Delays Colorado Road Work and Mining Rail Links

A March blizzard in southern Colorado delayed trains and blocked highways. Mountain districts reported heavy snow while lowlands saw light precipitation. Passengers on a Denver and Rio Grande Western train from Durango were marooned in Chama, New Mexico, and another train stalled between Telluride and Durango as crews fear new slides endangering workers after several deaths this winter.

Panhandle district highway workers receive half January pay

One month's pay, totaling 90 03.64 for the first half of January and 11 137.86 for the last half, arrived for Panhandle district highway department workers at local headquarters. W A French, division engineer and successor to J W Rider, arrived and began a district inspection while February wages remain unpaid.

49 Derricks Blown Down By Wind In Texas Field

A cyclone windstorm swept through the Henne, Winch and Fariss oil field in Jim Hogg County early yesterday morning destroying forty nine derricks. The Magnolia Humble Associated and the K and 8. corporation are reported the heaviest damage among the rigs and operators.

Two masked men robbed the Gulf bank house north of Borger at 10 pm, lining occupants at pistol point and taking watches money a diamond ring pin checks clothing and suitcases before fleeing in a green roadster a quarter mile away.

Johnny Mostil Shows Improvement Amid Health Crisis

Shreveport March 10 Johnny Mostil continues to improve with physicians expressing growing hope after his attempted suicide attempt. The White Sox center fielder remains under care as doctors monitor his condition and assess his prognosis.

Germany to Raise Evacuation Question

GENEVA March 10 Germany will officially raise the evacuation of the Rhineland. Foreign Secretary Gustav Stresemann told reporters that the issue will be settled satisfactorily and that foreign troops on German soil conflict with the peace presently prevailing.

Amarillo Blaze Destroys Landmark Killing Mother and Baby

Flames swept the Third and Van Buren building, Amarillo's oldest landmark, killing Mrs. Jewel Gonzales and her month-old baby as six occupants were injured leaping from second story windows. The fire began about 4:16 and its origin remains undetermined, with explosions reported in the upper rooms. Mrs. Gonzales died at a hospital around 10 this morning from burns.

Dance for Benefit of Fire Victims at Nat Hall

Dance benefits fire survivors at the Nat tomorrow night. FIL Hoover lends his hall for the event and promises seventy five percent of proceeds to those injured and who lost all in the fire. Hoover says the fundraiser is a worthy undertaking aiding those most deserving in need.

Amarillo Hotel Fire Kills Woman and Infant Near Dy

A woman died after being burned while locating her infant near the dy where the body was found. Her husband Benito Gonzales, pantry man at the hotel, said she dropped the child and died four hours after hospital intake. Injured include Jerry Quackenbosh 71 with an ankle fracture, Mrs Florence Nelson 50 with internal injuries, Hazel Thomas 18 percent burned, J Wiehards 40 with a broken leg, Charles Adams hotel steward burned, Mrs Adams sprained back. Hope for Youth Kept Alive by Artificial Respiration

Chicago reports Albert Frick, kept alive 72 hours by artificial respiration after Landry's paralysis stopped his diaphragm and lungs, holding his own at 11 am. He received broth and later a coffee spoonful, spoke briefly, and requested a position change.

Fire survivors face dire distress after a early morning blaze. Tobacco bill loses tilt in house skirmish
