Fifteen good will evangelists took off in three big planes for Clovis New Mexico to open the Trans Continental Air Transport flying field. Governor Dillon to lead ceremony. Two six place Travel Air cabin monoplanes from Texas Air Transport Flying Service each carried five and a Ryan Brougham carried five. The convoy wore Amarillo roses and a Miss Amarillo bouquet was dropped. Return flights planned for shortly after 7 tonight.
A lone female robber held up W. L. Stalens cashier of the Security Benefit Association in Peoria Kansas, forcing A. J. Perlich of Kansas City to drive to the scene. The payroll, about $14,000, was taken as she fled. The alarm drew authorities to pursue the suspect.
The Texas legislature, in Austin, must finish appropriation bills and cut spending to about 50 million before the four day window ends. A $5 million gap on the education measure remains between senate and house, with the final compromise around 16.5 to 17 million, risking a 750 thousand dollar budget excess. A district court heard C. C. Weir former deputy sheriff argue insanity in a bigamy case. He married Clara Young in December while still married to his first wife of 14 years in Fort Worth. The first wife testified to his spells and drinking. If found sane, trial on bigamy proceeds.
The dispute over J. T. Robison of the General Land Office ends as impeachment charges are dismissed by an 80 to 37 vote in Austin on June 28.
Cost of the hearing on charges against State Land Commissioner J. T. Robison was about 10500 dollars. Rep. John Davis of Mesquite chairs the expense committee. The hearing ran from June 12 to June 27 with some time spent on legislative work. Committee expenses for the regular session investigated the land office totaled around 6000 dollars.
After a day of argument, the House voted 80 to 37 to dismiss the impeachment charges against the veteran official. Proposals to censure and reprimand or to file articles of impeachment were defeated by 3 to 30 and 77 to 34 respectively. The action followed resolutions by Stevenson and Johnson and Van Zandt seeking other penalties or actions.
McGrath was named assistant to Leo Sparks county attorney succeeding Bill Culwell who resigned. McGrath previously worked with the federal government and brings broad experience. Culwell served in the office for two and a half years and did not issue a resignation statement.
