Court Denies Rehearing in Hidalgo County Election Case
The Texas Supreme Court denied a rehearing in the Hidalgo County district judge election dispute involving Gordon Griffin and J. E. Leslie. It reaffirmed that courts lack jurisdiction until the secretary of state canvasses election returns, upholding Leslie’s 14 vote majority after unsealed Weslaco envelope votes were rejected. Griffin's injunction halted canvass, but the high court ruled election review must await complete canvass.
