In Fort Worth on June 25 Rosalie the rat snake and Martha the lioness aided the Red Cross with a 6.20 donation. Police joked a ten cent pool on Rosalie’s eggs. a cub was born last night and named for Sgt Walter Kennedy who guessed 22 hatchlings closest to the count.
County Agricultural Agent Frank Stubbs said Amarillo area wheat harvest should start next week. harvest of oats and binder crops has already begun, but wheat combining should start on the Fourth of July as workers begin a busy holiday season.

French naval units at Alexandria flew half mast as mourning. German and British air and land actions intensified as Europe neared a broader ceasefire.

Monahans, Texas ju ne 25 A jeweler 47 year old O A Bruton claims an electrical gun design can fire a 1000 pound shell up to 750 miles. He says the gun is vibration free and quieter than a 500 horsepower motor. Bruton outlines an 18 inch to 10 inch bore device with a 32 foot barrel, using electro magnets to accelerate the shell then releasing a torpedo styled explosive shell with a 46 inch propeller.
In Little Rock on June 25 a sparrow died after alighting on a transformer, knocking out power at city hall and causing an estimated $100 in damage. City employees investigated the blast after a loud explosion and a 13,200-volt line failure.
The University of Texas Bureau of Business Research reported that sales by 92 Texas department stores increased 11 percent in the last month over May 1939. Men's clothing stores led gains with a 22.6 percent rise.
Baltimore on June 25 reports Tom Hong a Chinese laundryman called a lucky fellow by police after two black bandits robbed him of 4.50 as he exchanged rent receipts. He remained calm, pocketed the receipt, and returned to his work.

John Stuchell Fisher, Indiana County farm boy who rose to Pennsylvania governor, died at his home at 73. A Republican, he served a four year term beginning in 1927 after balancing farm chores with studies for a law career and political interest.
President Roosevelt approved a 4.6925 billion tax measure to fund defense. The plan taps about 2 million more income taxpayers and raises taxes on most items, with 4.0 billion of new notes authorized to cover armaments until receipts arrive. Debt limit raised to 49 billion, treasury to sell notes.
Berlin reports Fritz Loeb, 45, a key figure in building Germanys air force and in developing the Nazi four year plan, died in the air. Official news agency says he was killed in an airplane crash, with other sources noting the same fate.

E C Creech of St Augustine, while driving, ran over a rattlesnake on a highway. He stopped to inspect the kill and claimed the wheel caused the snake to cough up a dated dime from 1912.
Four Texans were injured, two critically, when their car overturned at the U.S. 66 and 81 junction, plunged into a ditch and caught fire in El Reno. Clarence Sigman of Amarillo suffered multiple rib and back injuries. Julia Brown of Canyon, head injuries and a broken arm. Melba Simpson and Howard Sigman of Amarillo sustained minor injuries. Mr and Mrs J C Fisher helped extinguish the blaze and transported the injured to a sanitarium.
New York police found 65 year old rag picker Rashe Silverman dead in a ten year cold water flat. Her bed was littered with rags and pickings while savings books showed deposits totaling 11 970 and first mortgages aggregating 25 000. Neighbors called her Aunt Rashe for her daily rummaging in garbage cans.
W W Finch of Amarillo won the presidency of the Texas State Building and Construction Trades Council at a gathering during the Texas State Federation of Labor convention in San Antonio. The move places Finch at the helm of a key labor and construction alliance. The report notes concurrent news from London where demolition began at Crystal Palace Towers to salvage 1600 tons of steel for armaments.
