Nazis to face war crimes trial near end of World War II

An informant states up to 100 Nazi leaders may be indicted, including Goering, Ribbenstrorp, von Papen, SS officers, Gestapo heads and financiers. Eggs spill as barrel rolls from truck in Springfield street

A barrel of spoiled eggs from a hatchery rolled off a passing truck and broke in the street. The driver kept driving to the city dump. About 60 chirping chicks were scattered and quickly picked up by bystanders.

Protest Over Discharge Sparks Grain Plant Strike

In Fort Worth on June 22 a strike at Armour & Co. sheep and hog killing plant spread to about half the departments with roughly 350 workers joining. Pickets staffed the plant as no killing departments operated. West Texas State College Canyon will receive 145 561 more and Texas Tech will gain 368 996 additional in the two year appropriation. Gov Coke R Stevenson approved 25 563 389 for UT and other state colleges for two years. The bill adds 20 percent to prior levels, with boards agreeing to curb spending if revenue proves insufficient and to avoid new deficits.

Potter County War Bond Drive Seeks Boost Amid Low Bond Purchases

Potter County trails Texas with 66.1 percent of its Seventh War Loan quota while the state runs 67.5 percent. The 50 percent boost in basic A gasoline rations took effect nationwide today. Motorists with A-16 coupons can buy six gallons with a stamp instead of four previously, expanding fuel access during wartime.

Weather Outlook for Amarillo and West Texas

The U S Weather Bureau reports partly cloudy conditions across Amarillo and vicinity this afternoon into Saturday with warmer afternoon temperatures. West Texas sees similar skies with widely scattered showers in late afternoon and evening. New Mexico notes partly cloudy weather with light showers in northern mountains. highs Saturday range 70 to 80 in the north and 90 to 95 elsewhere. The 24 hour high was 87 and low 59 with noon 75.
