Jack Dennis 37 was fatally shot at the Texan Filling Station on Sixth Avenue and Hayden Street. E C Baker 26 surrendered at Potter County jail claiming he was involved after a drive by. Cates Meyers Stevens and others were present but no one saw the actual moment of the shooting. Baker refused to talk and claimed a cow caused his injuries during arrest.

Jessie A. McElreath, 57, longtime Panhandle cowboy, was struck and killed by a southbound Santa Fe train at the crossing near White Deer depot. He had been in town for a few weeks and was not working. Funeral services are set for 2:30 this afternoon. A brother, B. McElreath, a street cleaner in White Deer, survives him.

Chicago reports detail George A. Howlett among 68 indicted beer peddlers and aides tied to Capone. Howlett supposedly lived in a $100,000 Long Beach Ind residence and ran a Chicago printing firm, entertaining at the country club. Revenue officials place him high in the Capone organization and note others, including Joe Fusco and Jack Delaney, took orders from him. None of the other indicted have been arraigned. some, including Howlett, remain at large as Capone awaits June 30 sentencing for his guilty plea.
Five people died in Texas waters over the weekend while attempting to save others. Drownings included Don Brett, Agnes Cathey, Robert Delaney, Miguel Guerrero, and Victor Block, with each incident tied to a river, lake, or channel rescue attempt and several lives saved or aided by rescuers.

In Wildwood Pennsylvania a battle between about 150 striking miners and deputy sheriffs left one miner dead and six others wounded. An injured deputy sheriff and a group of workers faced long lines of police after a group carried an American flag to the Butler Consolidated Coal Company mine. The fatality marks the first death in a strike involving about 15,000 workers entering its fourth week.
Walter O'Brien 40, manager of the O'Brien Marble Company in Houston, died 31 days after he was found shot in his office. His widow urged investigators and the district attorney to mount a full murder inquiry, insisting he did not kill himself.
