Cates Meyers Stevens and others were present but no one saw the actual moment of the shooting. Baker refused to talk and claimed a cow caused his injuries during arrest.

Ranch veteran killed by Santa Fe train at White Deer

Jessie A. McElreath, 57, longtime Panhandle cowboy, was struck and killed by a southbound Santa Fe train at the crossing near White Deer depot. He had been in town for a few weeks and was not working. Funeral services are set for 2:30 this afternoon. A brother, B. McElreath, a street cleaner in White Deer, survives him.

Ten jurors named for Chambers on fatal crash case

Ten jurors to try Fred Chambers for drunk driving in the Fourth and Jefferson Streets fatal crash that killed G. W. Callaghan were selected as Potter County criminal district court recessed. Two more jurors remained to be drawn when the panel exhausted and Sheriff Will Thompson was ordered to summon more jurors this afternoon. Chambers also faces charges of failure to stop and render aid and negligent homicide in related court actions. Callaghan, aged recluse, lived alone in a hut on the Myers Brothers Wrecking Companyyard west of the city.

Capone Beer Peddler Lived as Millionaire, Investigator Reveals

Chicago reports detail George A. Howlett among 68 indicted beer peddlers and aides tied to Capone. Howlett supposedly lived in a $100,000 Long Beach Ind residence and ran a Chicago printing firm, entertaining at the country club. Five Drown in Texas Waters
