Spitfire Intervenes in Nazi Prisoner Train Raid
Lt. Charles Robertson Jr. of Amarillo, a former POW, is on 60 day leave after surviving a German prisoner train hit. A British Spitfire strafed the ammunition car, knocked out a locomotive, and prevented prisoner casualties as the train resumed its journey toward its destination. Robertson was captured Oct 29, 1944 near Mijel, Holland, and was liberated as Russian tanks arrived at Lukenwald. His wife and children plan a visit with Robertson and Mrs Cannon at 3500 Harrison Street.
