Mexico church fight nearing settlement
The Mexican government and Vatican emissaries reached a basis for resolving the religious controversy. Approval by Pope Pius is needed to implement an episcopate order and return priests to Mexican churches. The accord, brokered by President Portes Gil and bishops with Ambassador Morrow as intermediary, keeps constitutional changes out, relying on a broader interpretation of religious laws. If the Vatican does not ratify swiftly, further settlement seems unlikely for some time.
