Nazi Fugitives Captured Near Cedar Park After Escape

Two German POWs, Inwig Jung and Harald Stalbecken, captured near Cedar Park 12 miles from Austin after escaping Camp Hood with five others. They surrendered to Roscoe Faubion, Carl Scott, and L D Hammett following a tip from Mrs. Halsey Streed. they were unarmed and held at Travis County jail awaiting return to the army camp.

Stilwell Heads to China With Plans for Air Offensive

Lieut. Gen. Joseph W. Stilwell arrived in Chungking bearing plans for an air offensive aimed at Japan. The strategy, formed in Washington, sought air field captures within range of Tokyo. In Tokyo, the Diet met for a three day session as Tojo prepared to address lawmakers. Allied fliers raided Dutch New Guinea and Huon Peninsula while U S bombers hit the Mu River approaches and Maymyo shops. The Australian defense minister said Japanese invasion chances had dropped to near zero.
