German Spy Played Big Sneak Role At Pearl Harbor

OWI says German agent Bernard J. Otto Kuehn helped plan the Pearl Harbor raid by signaling to the Japanese and supplying ship counts. He was arrested in 1941 and later sentenced, with his wife and step-daughter aiding the effort.

U S Fliers Hit Hard at Japs in Burma Raids

American Mitchell medium bombers attacked two railroad bridges in the upper Irrawaddy region of Burma. Bridges at Meza and Kyungo were damaged or probably damaged. Bombers also hit warehouses at Nyaunggyi wun and rolling stock at Allagappa west of Mandalay with good results. No American losses. British Blenheim bombers raided enemy positions in Kale Valley and Taungup Pass road without loss.

95 Percent of Taxes Collected Promises Big Saving

Miss Jewell Davidson announces that close to 95 percent of state and county taxes have been collected with May showing strong gains. May highway fees totaled $5,503.16, and the May tax collection reached $7,598.96. Split payments are due this month and delinquent 1942 taxes go to the list after June 30 with added penalties.

Decision Awaited on Long Coal Dispute by War Labor Board

Appalachian coal operators and United Mine Workers clash over wages as the War Labor Board prepares a ruling on the Central Pennsylvania agreement and its effect on the wider Appalachian field. Mrs Dempsey's Suit Dismissed In New York Case

Supreme Court Referee J Ad ison Young dismissed Mrs Hannah Williams Dempsey's counter-suit for divorce against Lieut Commander William H Dempsey after failing witness testimony. The trial resumed with attorney Gerald Donovan seeking Yvette Colbert to testify about alleged adultery with Jane Dee. With Colbert absent, the counter-suit portion was withdrawn leaving only the main suit and separation case unresolved.
