The Amarillo State Christian Endeavor convention draws more than 100 delegates by noon with others arriving by auto, bus, and train. Lee Smith was convicted of murder in the December 23 slayings of two Mexicans at Stanton Texas and wounding of a third. A district court jury sentenced him to life in prison. The case connected to a $5,000 reward offered by the state bankers association as part of the alleged plot.

A prospective trans Atlantic air race between Amelia Earhart and Mazel Bell was postponed at St Johns Newfoundland after Earhart's Friendship failed to leave the water on three attempts. Judge Harry Atwood of Chicago will address the Llano Estacado chapter of the D. A. R. at the Municipal Auditorium Monday night. Mrs. C. F. Protst of a Chicago D. A. R. chapter commends Atwood as a leading, entertaining, and instructive speaker. The event is free and open to out of town guests. Pr. H. But hker of Amarillo Greenhouse will furnish stage flowers and palms.
The regular weekly city commission meeting was not held last night due to illness of Commissioner W. H. Brymer. Mayor Lee Bivins was out of the city, and after roll call the session adjourned. Shingles roof repairs glass etc. John Maynard Lbr. Co. 800 W. 5th.
Amarillo Real Estate Board endorses a weekend trip to Liberal Kansas along the Rock Island railway and plans to transport nearly all members. Delegates include G W Jones Electric Co and several firms with names listed alongside officials. Also reports Kansas City GOP platform talks on farm relief and a row over the equalization fee system with Smoot predicting a draft by noon.
President and Mrs. Coolidge plan to depart tonight for a four months summer vacation in Wisconsin. The trip is announced by United Areas with Washington as the start point.
At least two people died and several were injured in a tornado that struck Cauthon, Oklahoma, near Heavener, last night. An elderly couple, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Smith, visiting from Texas, were among the dead.
Texas delegates hostile to Hoover failed to gain seats at the Republican convention in Kansas City as farm relief planks and a third ticket against Hoover were debated. A platform committee remained deadlocked on a farm relief plank with Borah reporting no platform before tomorrow.
A crowd of 1500 to 2000 farmers protested outside the Kansas City convention hall against Hoover. Police blocked entry as leaders including Edgar D. Bush and Senator Nye attempted to gain access. Organizers warned no voting would occur if farmers were barred from the auditorium.
