Britain Looks To Air Force
London reports Britain's reserve program focuses on air warfare with 10 000 Class I reservists called up for fifteen days of training two thirds in anti air work. RAAF fighters will train three months, and about 235 000 Class Z men will be recalled. Defense Minister Shinwell defends fifteen days as valuable for rapid mobilization and proper placement of reservists. Total active forces may reach 900 000 by next April.

Shortage of officers leads to rationing at Fort Jackson
At Fort Jackson South Carolina the Eighth Infantry training division faces officer shortages. Lieutenants and captains are scarce, with some companies of over 200 men having only one second lieutenant. Maj. Gen. Harry J. Collins moved staff to Fort Benning for brush-up training as recalled veterans and ROTC graduates take over instructor roles. Lt. Col. Victor Conley explains committees select teachers for ability, not rank, while reports reach the general daily. Reserve officers complain promotions are slow under the current democratic push, though most accept leading by merit.
