Indifferent War in China Described by Colonel Perrine
Lt. Col. Nat B Perrine Jr, son of Gen Nat Perrine, returned to the United States and gave his view on China’s war effort. He said Chinese Communists claim 150 million followers but actual support is likely 10 to 15 percent, with 80 percent neutral. He described Red police control and warned about guerilla warfare, noting US trained First Army units and Chinese forces tied to Nationalist and Communist struggles. Perrine served in Burma and China, later advising the American ambassador and observing front lines. His father is a long-time Texas National Guard officer.
