Hanson Post No 54 of the American Legion in Amarillo invites public input on how to use a built up fund. Members seek community guidance on diverting funds from an iron lung toward purchasing an X ray machine for the Amarillo Tuberculosis Preventorium or proceeding with the original iron lung plan. A $5 prize will be awarded for the best letter explaining the chosen option and rationale. Letters must reach the adjutant by June 17.

Man Charged as Robber in Duck Inn Stickup
W. A. Patillo, a San Antonio ex convict, was jailed on robbery by assault charges after a night stickup at the Duck Inn on East Tenth Avenue. Police tracked the bandit to the arrest near Tyler Street, a .38 pistol was found, and Patillo faced arraignment with bond set at 1500 dollars. Francisco Sarabia once topped the Mexico City to New York nonstop record in 10 hours 48 minutes. His Gee Bee speed plane crashed into the Potomac near Bolling Field and he drowned after the wreck trapped him in the cockpit. In Austin on June 7 1959 Rep FE Thornton Jr of Galveston said Senate Joint Resolution 12 the sales natural resources tax constitutional amendment to finance social security will be brought up tomorrow for a final vote in the Texas House. It needs 100 affirmative votes to pass and submit to voters. The measure has 89 favorable votes in one House test. Two ill reps were allowed to vote yes and one was denied a last minute aye due to absence. A final passage would end the session likely next week after a 149 day record.
