Pilot aims for Mars lands at sea near Boston
Cheston L. Eshelman of Carlisle Pennsylvania, a 22 year old student pilot with eight hours solo time, took off from Pitcairn Airport Philadelphia for an ocean flight billed as Mars. The Luscomb monoplane NC 22070 sank 175 miles east southeast of Boston after a night of flying blind. Eshelman was rescued by the fishing trawler Villanova and later reported as CP.
