Amarillo firefighter Tex Thornton used 60 quarts of TNT to extinguish a blazing McIlroy gusher southeast of Borger after steam failed. Thornton had just hours earlier answered a Sanford gasser fire where eight men died.

He moved from Alabama to Texas about 20 years ago and resided in Hall County 15 years. Family members in Amarillo hastened to Giles after his death.
Henry Knighton is on trial in district court for possessing liquor. Knighton was arrested December 15 and charged with possessing twelve gallons of corn liquor. He is represented by J. W. Colwell.
A masked bandit robbed Help Yourself Grocery in San Jacinto of 150 dollars Monday night and cried sobs after. He claimed to be Billy Kimes and expressed remorse, saying he would repay double on Wednesday. Proprietor Silas Hart and his wife sobbed with him as he kept three adults at gunpoint. Robert Mathis, a Wayland College student and Hart relative, was visiting at the time.
A mild earth disturbance shook the New Jersey coast from Jersey City to Tom's River on June 11. Buildings swayed small chimneys toppled clocks stopped and dishes rattled as thousands fled outdoors. Geologists cite a rock layer slip along the Atlantic seaboard as the likely cause with shore sands also considered a factor.
