Water Wells Boost Output at Word Ranch Tests

Three city water wells No. 8 No. 9 and No. 10 on the Word ranch recently tested after turbine pumps were installed. City Manager H R Smith reported a production rise to 1,767 gallons per minute, above the guaranteed 1,400. The city lake, lowered to a trickling channel, currently sits 26 feet deep.

Senator Demands Retraction of Army Statements

Senator Vandenberg urged the War Department to withdraw officer statements claiming 80 to 90 percent of draftees, selectees, and guardsmen favored extending service. Aluminum on Way To Warehouse in Amarillo Drive

Aluminum collected in Amarillo for national defense moved toward the warehouse. A K Baracat, the collection chairman, watched the first truck load weigh 770 pounds from the courthouse lawn, estimating Amarillo would exceed its 10 000 pound quota and reach over 11 000 pounds, with Boy Scouts and volunteers transporting the metal to Armstrong Transfer & Storage.

14 Recruits Apply For U. S. Navy

The Amarillo recruit station opened July 18 and has seen 14 applicants. Eleven have been enlisted in Dallas, others await enlistment there.
