Railroad Rounds and Ramblings by John Moore
A busy social and business evening united two local lodges of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen with the Ladies Society at Painters Hall. The event highlighted Tri-State Convention plans for Amarillo from August 26 to 28 and featured remarks by J. R. McVea and W. C. Kiser on union activity and Santa Fe Line labor relations. Delegates for the convention were named from lodges in New Mexico Arizona and Texas. The piece notes a postponed Santa Fe store door service set for August and rails union wage defenses against any wage cuts amid industry strains.

They note many workers remain out of work or underemployed and argue wage levels are not the issue. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen, meeting in Columbus with 934 delegates from the U S and Canada, backs readjusting freight rates for the railroads' long term health.
