Potter County Free Library Origins and Early Growth
The Potter County Free Library occupies the main floor of the courthouse area with rest rooms and meeting rooms nearby. It traces its origins to twelve girls known as Justus Girls and the 1907 push by Mrs. J. H. Wills and others toward a public library, leading to the 1921 founding with a $480 donation and 8,500 volumes. Miss de White Henderson and later Miss Willie Lee Martin led early library organization and staffing with local support and county funding.
