The city commission approved a white way lighting plan for the Fillmore street block between Third and Fourth streets. The new $250,000 Palo Duro hotel and nearby establishments including the Gallison, W H Hayman plumbing, Central rooms, Mitchell house, and Wales Madden property will receive five lights of the same type as on Polk and Fourth streets after a petition and a conference between Col. C. T. Herring and city officials.
At a noon Kiwanis luncheon, Amarillo members voted to make this year’s boys picnic a memorial to Ed Roos who died a year ago. The event will be annual with about 300 boys attending last year. Arrangements will be made soon. William Bush urged expanding Amarillo manufacturing and wholesale activity. Judge Motlow asked members to provide full names and birth states. Ford Brandenburg shared a message from Dr. Bontourney Aber deen about singing America with Amarillo club.
Government tests of potash and other mineral deposits will be conducted in wells drilled for oil in the Panhandle. W. W. Lang of the U S Geological Survey, based in Midland Texas, visited to study county mineral deposits and potash potential. Drillers in Potter county will supply samples from depths under 500 feet as part of a federally funded survey expected to benefit the Panhandle’s large potash beds.
The forecast calls for showers this afternoon or tonight and cloudy skies tomorrow with a chance of more showers. Today’s high reached 89 degrees and the low stayed around 71, compared with 91 and 70 a year ago.
