Ranchman John P. Burch Dies Near Vega

John P. Burch died at his ranch home eight miles south of Vega after a two year heart illness. He lay bedfast eight to nine weeks. Survived by widow Ella, daughter Eula age 13, three brothers and his father. Funeral at his residence with Rev. Smith-Capers Preparing to Drill in Oil Prospect

A liner is placed in the Holmes McIlroy and McGee No 1 Smith-Capers oil well in south Hutchinson county as preparations to drill proceed. Youth saved from mob after death of Chile

Picher Oklahoma July 21 officers prevented a mob of about 206 persons from taking vigilante action after Jud Parsons 17 confessed to causing the death of Floyd Smith 6 through a criminal assault. Parsons was jailed in Ottawa county Miami while officers rushed him from the morgue to avoid crowd violence.

Greenhill Injured by Recoil of Big Gun at Practice

Bennie Greenhill of Battery B 131st Field Artillery was injured at target practice when the recoil of a large gun drove jaw fragments through his lower jaw and cheek. He was moved to Northwest Texas hospital, with teeth likely lost. His brother Roy suffered a similar wartime accident.

Drowned When Freighter Wrecks Off Goto Island

Fifty seven persons perished when the Nippon Yusen Kaisha freighter Matsuyama Maru foundered off Goto Island near Kyushu on July 11. The old vessel without radio carried no passengers. all officers and crew perished except one fireman saved by a trader and brought to Kobe. Vessels searched the vessel along its Formosa to Japan route after it sailed from Keelung on July 9.
