Arkansas and Alabama joined 18 states on record for repeal as voters backed ending prohibition by about three to two in Arkansas and about two to one in Alabama. Tennessee and Oregon due to vote next while 36 states must approve repeal to nullify the amendment.

Justice agents arrest Frank Douglass age 41 as they advance the investigation into the kidnapping and release of 77 year old August Luer of Alton Illinois. In Albany New York the O Connell family remains hopeful for Lieut John J O Connell Jr and the kidnapers with no word yet from authorities.
Wheat fell as much as 13 cents a bushel in Chicago after a rise to 1.28 a bushel. Corn and other grains also declined. In Fort Worth cattle traded steady with a load of heavyweight steers at 6.15, while London closed the dollar at about 4.85 1/4 to the pound after slipping from parity.
Fort Worth Texas police arrested two men in a case involving an attempt on Charles Lee Allison a 45 year old Texas Ranger shot through his home wall while he read a magazine. The suspects are described as alleged liquor dealers and may have had an old grudge against the Ranger.
Rain refreshed lawns parks and yards across Amarillo and surrounding Panhandle towns after a Tuesday night storm. Ample showers ranged from a quarter to an inch in several locations including Wildorado Groom Conway and Canyon to Texico with lighter showers elsewhere. The forecast called for partly cloudy skies and more unsettled weather, with notable rainfall in San Jacinto and along the Rock Island and Santa Fe routes.

Renewal and extension of obligations may occur on terms approved by the banking commission.

DECATUR Texas July 19 AP Prosecution of Ed Perchmouth Stanton a Texas fugitive for the murder of Deputy Sheriff Joe Brown will be vigorously pushed but may be delayed pending trials in other counties Stanton was arrested near Carrizon NM after officers killed Glenn Hunsucker sought for the Brown slaying Sheriff I T Faith Wise County said Stanton had been positively identified and cooperated with Swisher County officers New Mexico authorities are detaining Stanton until bank robbery investigations are complete Then he will be taken to Tulsa to be tried for Sheriff Moseley’s murder the three officers were slain three days apart in January.
