Fight Planned To Save Local Airline Route

Senator Clint Small described a Monday Oklahoma City air mail conference opposing possible elimination of the Amarillo to St. Louis route via Oklahoma City. He plans to confer with Congressman Marvin Jones before action. Officials said the federal budget for air mail and lighted airways would be cut and lines under contract may face about 25 percent reductions. Transcontinental and Western Air operates the Amarillo route and wants to preserve it for oil traffic and mail linkages to the West Coast. Fort Worth and Central Texas seek to drop the Oklahoma City leg in favor of El Paso routes, though abandonment has been discussed due to sparse population and duplication with Amarillo. Telegrams and letters noted.
